Victory Fellowship Church held its first service on September 13, 1983, in a small metal building on the outskirts of Emporia, Kansas, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Jim and Judy Kegin.
The vision of the founders was to lead people to Jesus Christ, build them up in the Lord, train the laity to do the work of the ministry, and release them into whatever ministry the Lord may call them to.
A very big part of the call was to take laymen on ministry trips to other countries, introduce them to needs and areas of service, and believe God would call some of them to go back to a particular area and minister the gospel there. Between thirty and forty mission trips have been taken. Most of these have been led by Pastor Mike Angel, who was a wonderful associate pastor for 16 years. He helped develop Victory Fellowship and its outreaches.
That which the founders believed would happen has happened. Five pastoral couples, four missionary families, three individual long-term missionaries, and several short-term missionaries have been sent out, as well as others who have gone to serve with other churches and ministries.
In 1985, a new building was added to the original structure, providing a larger and very beautiful sanctuary, a Christian school founded by Kent and Pat Austin, and class rooms including a large area for youth. The Christian school has now become Emporia Christian School. It is supported by several other churches and is located on a beautiful campus in the heart of Emporia.
In 1994, after three years of study, investigation, and fellowship, Victory Fellowship joined the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. It has proven to have been a wise and healthy move for the church. It has added public accountability, while not changing the basic operation or belief system of the church. It also added resources such as children and youth camps, legal advice, and a family larger than before.
In September 2004, Mike and Jannie Stubbs were appointed as senior pastors of Victory Fellowship Foursquare Church by the General Supervisor of ICFG upon retirement of the Kegins. The mission of Victory Fellowship is to restore people to their purpose in life through Christ Jesus.
